Morland Work Experience Programme
This July Morland welcomed seven work experience pupils aged 14-15 from three different schools from across Powys and Shropshire. The pupils spent two weeks working across the different business units, getting first hand experience of how a successful business operates, as well as understanding the different career options a company such as Morland’s can offer.
Pupils from Welshpool High, Bishop Castle College and Adcote School spent two weeks on rotations across the business. Working closely with department heads, the pupils got a detailed understanding of how the business works day to day and the key role it plays to customers. Developing key skills that will stand them in good stead in the future.
As part of the two weeks pupils were involved in mock interviews and completed a CV writing session with HR as well as completing a management instruction through drawing game. They also worked in teams to develop and create a marketing and launch programme for two new products the business is currently developing. Using the insight, knowledge and skills they had learnt throughout the week to deliver a product launch presentation to senior members of the business. The level of thought, detail and creativeness that went into these presentations were incredible.

” Everyone has been really friendly and helpful which has made it enjoyable. We really enjoyed coming up with marketing for a new product and presenting it. Cleo and I came up with an amazing name for our product. If I were to change anything about the past two weeks, I would have had more practical work at times or using real life examples with the different departments instead of showing us PowerPoints.”
As a business Morland work closely with the community and local schools and we’re proud to help support and inspire the next generation of workers, whether they chose a career with us at Morland’s or in a different industry. Investing in young people is something we are passionate about, with a number of apprentices learning and working in the business today, as well as key having a number of key staff that have come through the apprenticeship programmes. In 2023/24 we will be looking to open our first graduate programme as well.
It’s been a real pleasure having the pupils in for their two week programme and was great to see how engaged & positive they were. It’s also been insightful getting a younger perspective on our business and we’re looking forward to see how they develop as young adults.
“We are delighted to be able to support these students and the local community. To be able to support these students and give them an insight into how businesses work and the wide range of opportunities available to them is something we’re proud of.
Rachel Jones, Human Resource Manager, Morland
