Name: Aaron Darwin

What you do at Morland: Apprentice multi skilled engineer
Time at Morland: 3 years
Did you start straight from School/College? Started after 1st year university, from realising it wasn’t for me.
What does your job entail?
Carrying out routine maintenance, checks, machining parts/components, making structures using welding methods, diagnosing faults/problems, moving and installing machinery.
What is the best thing you like about working at Morland?
The workplace community. The variation in day to day roles, as well as variation in machinery systems and machines. Working a 40 hour – 4 day week.
What is the most interesting thing that has happened during your time with the company?
Learning engineering values and techniques, learning methods which i can use outside of the workplace and be of skill value to others. Having ideas translated into form and used daily. Consistently improving my skills.
What would you say to other young people exploring apprenticeships:
If copious amounts of paperwork/written work and theory based careers aren’t an intertest, and you are more practical/kinesthetic as well as more effective learning in the element then definitely consider an apprenticeship, being paid whilst learning and slowly developing your skills as you progress through the education far succeeds a university degree in personal opinion.
What are your hopes for the future with the company?
To fully qualify both mechanically and electrically and therefore become multi skilled and carry out a range of jobs safely and effectively. Be of use outside the workplace and gain branching skills related to my career.
What interests do you have outside of work?
I find enjoyment in fitness/strength training, live music events, cars and the community surrounding it, music production
